Candidate Information
Sandie Gilliam
Candidate's Statement:
At some point in one's teaching career, there comes a time to give back for all that was given to you, and to pass along to others the professional knowledge learned along the journey. As a 32-year veteran high school mathematics teacher, I have left the classroom to work with both pre-service teachers and those wishing to reflect upon and perfect their classroom teaching, as well as to further math education research with university colleagues and continue my own life-long learning.
Organizations, such as NCSM, give experienced educators a forum from which to share professional knowledge. They make networking and collaboration possible so that ALL students can have access to a rigorous and meaningful mathematics curriculum.

Candidate's Statement:
My teaching experience and leadership responsibilities have uniquely prepared me for the 2nd Vice President's duties in these special ways. I have served on numerous program committees including the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and the Kansas Teachers of Mathematics. Perhaps my most valuable experience has been as a member of the Board of Directors for NCSM for the last 3 years and as such I have become thoroughly familiar with the mission/vision of our organization, which I support whole-heartedly. My teaching experience has covered elementary, secondary, and college levels and I've had the responsibility as the mathematics coordinator for a very large school system for more than 25 years.
